How is vastness used to manipulate the perception to extend the interior space giving limitless possibilities in a city of limited spaces struggling through an increasing population and a rising housing crisis?

Extending Perceptions is a thesis project that addresses the current issue of urban dwelling space.
In the urban setting, people are often restricted to a small dwelling space that doesn’t allow for a healthy living environment. In New York City, inhabitants must sacrifice a small quantity of space for higher quality, or a big quantity of space for lower quality. Design is a tool that can be used to manipulate one’s perception of small spaces. This idea challenges the occupant’s perception creating a new experience for the space by exploring one’s sense of touching the view. The extension of space focuses on a controlled direction of view in an enclosed area that delivers a feeling of vastness, pinning out specific points in the landscape.
