The Atlantic Rainforest is the site of high rates of deforestation. Human development has
pushed natural ecologies out of their original habitats. This cycle of destruction can be fought by
designing havens for native vegetation and ecologies to thrive. The urban, artificial landscapes of
industry and human development can now lend themselves to housing sites of natural growth.
The Olympic Park of Rio de Janeiro was constructed quickly under circumstances of
bribery and controversy. Soon after the Olympics ended, the site fell into abandonment and
disarray. The decaying structures of human development can be reused and designed around for
human and non-human housing, training, and treatment. The program of our project looks into a
future where major cities become more isolated and humans must coexist with nature. The
training of athletes will reuse the sites of current stadiums and sporting events will not be
performed solely for the human spectator. Animals will share space with the athletes and
sporting events as they thrive in a haven of coexistence alongside humans. The conservation of
animals will help educate humans on how to help the local animals near them. The result is a
project that reuses the site of Olympic games for future training while also creating space for
animals to thrive and boost biodiversity once again.
