Bring Back Intimacy
Jeeyea Choi
Jeeyea Choi is a designer from Seoul, South Korea who focuses on art in all of its forms. Inspired by her personal documents and other artists' works, this collection titled Bring Back Intimacy explores the close familiarity and memories created with others. Through the development of soft and structured silhouettes, she attempts to capture intimate feelings, both emotional and physical. She emphasizes these feelings with the use of artisanal fabrications and details such as natural dye, ceramics, and photo print through cyanotype and salt/silver process. After graduation, Jeeyea plans to continue pursuing art and design to further her interdisciplinary talents.

Artist Statement
My goal is to tell a story about how I look at the world around me and how it makes me feel. A story about the time I either spend by myself or surrounded by a group of people enables me to embrace many possibilities.
I make it a point to challenge existing aesthetics while finding beauty in everything around me. To me, beauty comes as something raw, visceral, and natural. Things that are considered to be ugly, I believe there is always beauty. Everything is alive and has a movement and aura. Defined boundaries do not exist, as I believe that darkness can be bright, and brightness can be dark. Any shape and texture can be translated into my pieces, with interdisciplinary exploration. I do not want to limit these shapes and textures for certain gender or body shapes as well.
I aspire for my audiences to feel these aesthetics and appreciate the feelings they elicit. These feelings are transcendent of definition.
