Artist Statement
New York is a diverse city with diverse workforces, who face different work-induced pressures every day. They need different types of physical activity for positive psychological adjustment. According to psychology and urbanist studies I have researched on issues concerning anxiety and stress in the urban workplace, the physical and mental well-being can be improved by daily, weekly or monthly “retreat.†Therefore, in this thesis, I explore how the design of interior space can present a powerful separation from daily life by developing restful and play-like spaces, using five atmosphere-building methods that rely on: investigating interior-based notions of interlocking; spatial rhythms, immersive ambiguity, modularity and a series of human sensation.
