Artist Statement
My work explores various relationships to landscape through examining systems of growth and organization. Mechanical demarcations and divisions of landscape are often drawn for human use value, decentering more-than-human organisms. The grid and nature both thrive on collisions of division and connection; interlacings between the human and more-than-human reveal a series of contradicting relationships: interdependence, alienation, domination, congregation, connection. Through an ephemeral process of co-authorship, the living materials I work with create alongside me. Utilizing recycled plastics, paper, mycelium and plants, my hanging, living installations contain and support the animacy and well being of many more-than human creatures. Interrogating inter-species cohabitation and coevolution, holding these occasionally oppositional fragments in one suspended somatic moment, imagining futures where the abundance of human and non-human actants alike is complicated and cared for.
