Filmmaker, Director, Videographer and Production Designer
Yajarrah Paul
Yajarrah Paul is a multimedia artist versed as a film director, production designer, actor, and singer. August of 1996, she was born on the eastside of Atlanta in Decatur. Her family swiftly moved north out of the city shortly after. She studied psychology at Georgia Gwinnett College before deciding to pursue a fine arts school. At the age of 20 she moved to Brooklyn, New York to attend Pratt Institute for Film and Video. Quickly after questing through the multiple areas of film, she found a liking to being beside the camera, in front of the camera and controlling the perspective of the camera. With her background and passion for psychology, her films and production style is experimental for herself and those involved. Her method of practice roots from her own psyche of personal experiences that she finds closure through performance and story.

Artist Statement
Yajarrah believes the natural simplicity of capturing moments can evolve into another comprehensible reality but with that also come a need for answers and understanding. She falls astray from the traditional responsibility of a narrative. Where all the answers are given but her process triggers her own understanding. Before it all there was direct cinema. Before storytelling, replicating, manipulating, educating through video, propaganda; there was real life. There's also much to learn and understand from that as well. She connects with her work on a personal level. The way she cultivates a team, nurtures an idea and fuels the creativity around it, she builds from ground zero. Her interest in psychology doesn't just influence her process of production but how she directs and acts. She strives for an authentic approach that comes directly and efficiently.
“I have always wanted to shine light into dark corners of topics less discussed, unexplained or unexpressed emotions that I feel need to be explored. Whether it's within myself or others. All my work is a psycho- analysis of my own life. That's why I find myself always adding pieces of myself into the production.”
Paul’s films have explored the rims of fantasy, relationship dynamics, womanhood and sociology behaviors. She works best when it's coming from a real place within.
