I’ve become very fond of the act of traveling and the way it allows me to appreciate beauty in the spaces in-between destinations. Over the past few years, since moving to New York for school, I’ve been fascinated by the space in-between the two places I consider home (California and New York) and the way that my perception of distance shifts depending on mode of travel and time spent in a location. With this collection, I explored the multiple ways I experience distance, focusing on points of connection, shifting in-between spaces, and abstracting multiple perspectives of the in-between landscape.
I worked my hardest to make sure this collection is as sustainable as possible, given the resources available to me. As a designer, I aspire to design for all bodies and consider the entire lifecycle of my garments. Because I strongly believe that nothing new needs to exist, I committed to only sourcing repurposed textiles(using dead-stock fabric from fab scrap and creating textiles from deconstructed second-hand garments) and using full-fashioned (zero waste) knitting techniques. All dyes used are natural, painting was done using non-toxic textile paint, and hand-made embellishments were created using (biodegradable and non-toxic) bioplastic.
