Artist Statement
All life comes from darkness and returns to darkness. Like life, my monumental canvas paintings are shaped from the darkness. This darkness shapes dystopian, social and political commentary in my work. Black paint is often the main conceptual material formed around geometric shapes. The canvas often starts out dark and reduced to negative spaces of white, which is what I term constructive expressionism (ConEx). Geometric reduction is juxtaposed with gestural sgraffito or sfumato drips and smears.
