Inversion
Rendele Collins
Welcome! My name is Rendele Collins(b. July 29, 1999) and I'm a Sculpture based out of Orlando Fl. With my love for all things science and black history. Most of my work involves some sort of ties towards one of my passions. With this Piece in particular, it's geared more towards the racial/social injustice in today's society. My goal is to one day create a series of monumental that impacted our very own life.
Artist Statement
My piece expands on the ideologies of Martin Luther king Jr., who spoke of racial equality for all. This is accomplished with the use of hands, which historically have been used to create symbols (or gestures) in social justice movements that represent solidarity. The hands on the border of the work are symbolic of black people and minorities feeling like outcasts in today’s society. The closed fist indicates the unity and strength we provide for one another. Inversion focuses on examining the intersection between culture and identity. The inversion of the work reflects the negative and positive factors of change in time. Feel free to interact with this piece by taking your own photos and inverting the image.
