Mike Ehms' "Alpha Virtues"
Mike Ehms
Mike Ehms is a young and honest artist with a drive for the visual production of filmmaking, always finding ways to make his projects feel visually distinct. He tends to explore vulnerability through the veneer of nostalgia and memories (i.e. Present, Let sleeping Dogs Lie, reminiscence, Walking Alone in Brooklyn on a Friday, and Patchwork.). With Alpha Virtues, Mike has put 2 years of passion into a short film that is a culmination of everything he's worked for up to this point.
Artist Statement
Alpha Virtues, in essence, is about the trauma of having an older brother. An honest look at the
nature of toxic masculinity within a household and how that can harm a young boy, even if it
comes from the one person he admires most. The film is not setting out to condemn masculinity
as a whole, but rather criticize the more outdated notions surrounding it and uplift this greater
sense of love and strength between brothers. Alpha Virtues is about vulnerable masculinity.
