Artist Statement
When I am in front of the camera, my body is being examined and recorded, taken apart and pieced back together through the millions of pixels that make up a digital file. Repeating the same face, the same body, the same scene over and over again to the point of obsession.
At an early age, I became interested in performing for the camera. I was able to create a different persona: a person who looked just like me but wasn't me. I could control how the viewer would look at me, study me, analyze me.
Daffodil continues these interests, comprising documents of a multitude of performances that share the familiarity and consistency of my body. By using conventional and unconventional studio spaces, I explore the relationship I have with the camera and how it changes depending on the environment we inhabit.
